Areas covered are mainly in East Lothian and Midlothian. Surnames which feature include Redpath, Manderson, Forbes, Anderson, Scott, Wilson, Muir and Drysdale. These ancestors were mostly farm workers, with the majority of the men being farm servants, or ploughmen.

Many of my Yorkshire ancestors were in the weaving trades: handloom weavers, and later machine weavers and wool sorters. Principal surnames are Whiteoak, McCready, McCarthy, Metcalfe, Greenwood, Duckworth, Green and Barrett. There are also some records from Lancashire.

The main Southern counties are Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire, where the surnames concerned include Gerring, Goddard, Hawkins and Hobbs; and Sussex, where the family were mainly farmers, pork butchers and carpenters. Principal surnames here are Budgen, Trussler, Dapp and Wilson.
